Clemens Schuldt
Clemens Schuldt is the Principal Conductor of the Munich Chamber Orchestra. Clemens Schuldt is widely praised for his innovative interpretations of classical and romantic Germanic repertoire, often using his creativity to include lesser known and contemporary repertoire in his programmes. With the MKO he is anticipating highlights such as a focus concert on Per Norgård, Harrison Birtwistle, but also tour concerts including German summer festivals such a Rheingau Music Festival, concerts in Salzburg, Genf, but also Russia and Columbia. Soloists include Lisa Batiashvili, Augustin Hadelich, Renaud Capucon, Mahan Esfahani. Winner of the renowned Donatella Flick Conducting Competition London in 2010, Clemens Schuldt is one of the most exciting young conductors emerging from Germany today.
Schuldt has enjoyed considerable success in the UK including regular appearances with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia and Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Other orchestras he appears with include WDR Sinfonieorchester Cologne, Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, Bamberger Symphoniker, Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien, Netherlands Philharmonic, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Norwegian Opera Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, National Polish Radio Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Orquesta Sinfonica de Radio Television Espanola Madrid and Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona. Yomiuri Nippon Orchestra Tokyo, New Japan Philharmonic. He gives debuts with Tasmanian Symphony and Hong Kong Sinfonietta. Soloists include Daniil Trifonov, Ingrid Flitter, Kit Armstrong, Augustin Hadelich, Baiba Skride, Alina Ibragimova, Håkan Hardenberger, Francois Leleux, Xavier de Maistre, Steven Isserlis, Sally Matthews and Elin Rombo.
The 2017/18 season sees Schuldt return to the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra twice, including the world premiere of Mark Simpson’s cello concerto as well as a regional tour. He returns to the Royal Scottish National Orchestra with Kari Kriikku, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Scottish Chamber Orchestra with Elisabeth Leonskaja, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and the Musikkollegium Winterthur. He conducts his first Beethoven 9th Symphony with the Opera Orchestra in Chemnitz. Schuldt makes notable debuts with Orchestre National du Capitol de Toulouse, RTE National Symphony Dublin, Ulster Orchestra and Orquesta Sinfonica de Euskadi.
Opera is a central part of Clemens Schuldt’s music making. In his two seasons as Conductor in Residence with the Staatstheater Mainz he conducted new productions of Bellini’s Norma, Gluck’s Armide, Gounod’s Faust and Verdi’s Rigletto. Elsewhere he leads a new production (of Gounod´s Faust) at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck and performances of Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffmann at the Theatre Osnabrück and of Dvorak’s Rusalka at the Theater Gelsenkirchen.
Clemens Schuldt was the Assistant Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra for one year, working with distinguished conductors such as Sir Colin Davis, Valery Gergiev and Sir Simon Rattle. Born in Bremen, Clemens Schuldt studied violin at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, performing in the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen before he took up his conducting studies in Düsseldorf, Vienna and Weimar.
